At CES 2023, AMD recently announced its 7000 series of Zen4-based laptop processors. Not only are these CPUs more potent than their forerunners, but they also consume slightly less power. Lenovo’s IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 uses the Ryzen 7000-series CPU. Lenovo just introduced the IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7, the first IdeaPad laptop featuring a Ryzen 7000-series processor. I’ve tested the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 base model for two weeks. I’ve spent the last two weeks testing the base model of the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 laptop. I recommend Lenovo’s most recent budget Windows laptop with modern hardware.
Design
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 resembles its predecessors in appearance, which is not a bad thing. It looks like a typical 15-inch laptop in the middle price range and has all the features you’d expect from a device in this range. Compared to budget 15-inch notebooks, the laptop’s weight of 1.5 kilograms makes it a lightweight device. The laptop offers a large number of I/O, including a 3.5mm headphone jack, an SD card slot, a few USB-A ports, a USB Type-C port, and an HDMI port.
Even though I liked the laptop’s aesthetics, its construction could have been more impressive. The computer felt flimsy, and the display flexed slightly. Lenovo has balanced the machine’s overall value and build quality.

Display
The 15.6-inch FHD (1920x1080p) display on the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 has a maximum brightness of 220nits. While the display’s brightness is sufficient indoors, it becomes completely unusable outdoors. The display has adequate bezels, and the 720p webcam has a PrivacyShutter, which is a nice touch—even compared to my gaming laptop, which costs a lot more than the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7, the colors on the screen looked good, even though it was not as bright. Overall, the screen on this laptop will meet the needs of most people who want a cheap notebook.
Performance
This laptop is powered by a brand-new AMD Ryzen 3 7320U processor with an integrated Radeon 610M graphics processor. The CPU can give performance when needed thanks to its four CPU cores, eight threads, and maximum clock speed of 4.1GHz. The laptop ships with the Windows 11 Home operating system and can boot up in under 15 seconds from a cold start.

The higher core count (compared to other midrange laptops) makes this a multitasking-friendly machine. Chrome worked well when a few tabs were opened, a video was streamed, music was played, and content was downloaded. In addition to its 512GB PCIe Gen 4-based SSD and 8GB LPDDR5 RAM (5500MTs), the rest of this laptop’s specifications are comparable to those of other contemporary machines.
To play games on the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 with its integrated Radeon graphics, the resolution must be reduced to 720p, and the graphics quality must be set to low. Overall, the laptop has the sufficient processing power to handle typical day-to-day tasks that an entry-level laptop would be expected to perform.
life of the battery
The laptop has a 3-cell, 42Wh battery, and according to Lenovo, the device has a battery life of 9 hours. In my testing, the average battery life of the laptop was between 5 and 6 hours. I mostly used this laptop during testing to surf the web, make content, and watch videos. The computer additionally supports rapid charging. Unfortunately, instead of a USB Type-C port, it employs an old barrel-style charger.
Verdict: Good entry-level laptop
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 is great in a few ways, like how light it is, how long its battery lasts, and how it has new hardware. The laptop also has advanced wireless options, like Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1, for connecting to other devices. But it doesn’t have any security features, like a fingerprint sensor, and the keyboard isn’t lit up. The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 1 Gen 7 is an excellent entry-level laptop for web browsing and media consumption if you can overlook these features.
